When she found the wedding album my heart broke along with hers Didn t cry but I did get choked up And honestly I am not sure he was such a grand prize His first reactions were not good and my opinion went down after that He pushed her away all the time and that bothered me so I gave it three stars Loved the heroine and I did like the epilogue But back to my first thoughts, I don t want to share my time going over books that I have read in the past and didn t care for this one struck a chord Why did I not like it but yet felt so drawn to it again while taking a trip through Memory Book Lane I decided then that I needed a re read especially since I rated it 3 stars then months later changed that to 2.0 2.5 Something just nagged at me I must have had an off day when I read this or been overly emotional about something going on with family So here is what I feel now after taking my time to read this a second time, digesting it, and reading it through clearer eyes I felt Cooper mistreated the woman who carried his children, if only by the way he chose to ignore her and continue to date other women as she looked on He didn t feel she was good enough to be the wife of an important doctor There were times he was downright cruel What I saw this time was a man who dearly loved his wife and unborn baby He got caught up in the grief and it became a cycle, his way of life He was so mired in it that he couldn t see what was right in front of him He didn t know if he wanted Missy or not but he knew that he didn t want to lose her to anyone else as she very well may not wait around for him forever Being an OBGYN he felt even greater guilt because he should have seen what was coming in his wife s pregnancy and when she called him to tell him something was wrong he was in surgery I believe in his heart and mind he did not want to move on He wanted desperately to have back what he had lost But we all know that isn t possible and he just couldn t move forward It took a good swift kick in the derriere from a doctor friend to wake him up But still he and Missy remained in separate bedrooms with no intimacy beyond a meek hug every once in a while This is not how you treat someone you care deeply for especially when they are carrying your unborn child of which he was not at all happy about from the get go When the baby was mentioned all he could see was his still born child that was delivered as soon as his wife passed away He was haunted that the same thing would happen again I think the saddest moment in the book was when Cooper invited her back to his bed for the first time after their one night stand and the next morning he was devastated that he woke with her in his arms instead of his wife He immediately sent her back to the guest bedroom and there she stayed.I did feel the dead wife child theme was a bit too heavy We heard about it throughout the book until almost the end It was an awful way for Melissa Missy to go through a high risk pregnancy Cooper was quite the jerk thinking of her as damaged because of her diabetes and that part bothered me because I have the same disease It doesn t make me damaged goods because my body doesn t work like it should My feelings and emotions are no different from anyone else who doesn t have diabetes and I think that part of the story could have been dealt with a little differently but that was pretty typical for Cooper He wanted and expected perfection which is not uncommon for a physician REVIEW December 10, 2015 3 Stars A Disappointment for this reader.I am in a bit of a conundrum with the rating of It Started With a Pregnancy Explanations to come below. In this tale we have Dr Cooper Roberts who has recently moved and begun a new job with the chance of also beginning a new life Cooper is a widower and lost his wife and unborn child in a very tragic way It s been two years but he just can t seem to get past it His best friend tells him frequently that it is time to move forward but it is a constant struggle One evening Cooper and his best bud, Jake, go to a local bar and for the first time since his wife passed away he is attracted to a woman he sees there Jake convinces him to go talk to her and finally he does They spent the evening and night together and by the title of the book you know what happens even though they were carefulMelissa Bell is a midwife at the local hospital and still thinks about the guy she spent that one glorious night with and was wildly attracted to It was the first and only one night stand she ever had and it was quite out of character for her She is a vibrant, beautiful woman who is an excellent midwife and wonderful person During a busy day on the ward an OB consultant is called in on a case Yes, you guessed it, Dr Cooper Roberts It s the first time they have seen each other since their night togetheralmost two months They hadn t exchanged last names or talked about their careers It was quite a shock for both of them.Cooper is steeped in guilt and feels he is betraying his dead wife This is a theme that runs throughout the entire book and, if I am to be honest, it got old and tiring, so redundant It seems he can t get his focus off the dead wife and certainly can t get excited about this accident of a pregnancy I found it difficult to take as he broke Melissa s Missy heart constantly because he was unable to get on board, put his past behind him and spent almost the whole book wanting his wife Dreaming of her Waking with his arms around Melissa and being so upset it wasn t his wife that she was permanently banished to another bedroom They only shared a bed and intimacy one time since their one night stand That is all we got in the story and it seemed lacking I honestly don t know how she made it through the pregnancy with his thoughtlessness, hurting her, making her feel so unloved and unimportant It really troubled me Here he was an OB and Melissa was in a high risk pregnancy and all he did was cause her horrible stress, heartbreak and grieflike daily It didn t make him appear too bright and knowledgeable knowing her condition yet withholding himself from her and the situation Of course, he was so sorry that she was pregnant Why couldn t it have been his wife Why did it have to be with a woman who had diabetes that could cause problemsyada yada. The only person the good doctor thought about was himself and his dead family If he really thought of the mother of his child he would have gotten himself together and been there emotionally for her, even if he had to fake it Don t get me wrong He didn t mistreat her on purpose He wasn t a mean man Just a man who lived two years in the past He definitely had solid reasons for his distressing heartache but he was single focused on himself and his dead family. So, for those reasons and for the length of time it takes him to realize what he has after he has put her through hell, I just can t do any better than two or so stars This story I enjoyed Lots of depth and character development and I was probably in the mood for a medical romance Beautifully written. A fantastic book, I just could not put it down I loved the characters and could picture clearly each one of them as i read with tears in my eye on a few occasions.A great read looking forward to the next book by Scarlet Wilson. An excellent read, I found it gripping Even although it was a medical romance all the medical terms were fully explained I couldn t put it down A great read I was recommended this by a good friend and once I started I couldn t put it down Characters were strong and were really brought to life with passion and feeling Can t wait for the next one
