This was another book that I read for work and boy I sure am glad I did My eyes are really opened to everything in the human services industry that is going on I mean I had no idea the amount of cutbacks that happen I didn't realize that people in the human services I have a Bachelors double major Human Services and Psychology My first true love is Psychology but I was talked into doing human services as well since they basically go hand and hand This book made me really think about the work that I will have cut out for me when I do get my dream job It starts with the first half of the book a story about Nick He is a reporter with the assignment of covering a human services building and how the cutbacks have affected them Nick thinks that it is going to be a boring assignment but it turns out to be something so much I couldn't even begin to list all the important things that I learned while reading this book If I had to list one thing it is to take time to care for yourself So often people in the human services and psychology field work themselves ragged They don't take time to eat right or exercise to relieve stress Because this is job is stressful One of the places that Nick goes to research has a uiet Room It is for staff to meditate listen to music etc Basically it's an area to decompress I think that is an amazing idea This job can really get to you especially if you work with children that are abused I currently don't but I know that in the future I will have children that were abused come into my office I will own this book and have my team read it because it is just so insightful It has so many ways to improve your uality of life at work even if the first part of it is like a novel The second part is a little dry but it is still worth the read
