Please read and make a refission for you. Disclaimer: After Reading this biography I understand that categorizing Rilke on my bookshelf Germans is not something that had made him happy.

Maybe my German is not good enough to write a proper review about this biography of Rilke. Especially in the beginning I had the idea Raddatz was jumping between topics and different names in the literature a lot. But again, my German is moderate and there where a lot of unknown words for me. Still, this was good to read.

Raddatz connects Rilke’s life and his work and states that the life part was always less true for Rilke than the fantasy part - his work. He does this by showing his admiration for Rilkes work and lots of spot on quotes. While at the same time being critical of the disconnectedness of Rilkes ideals and the real (political and social) world.

I would definitely recommend this while reading Rilkes Poems. https://www.goodreads.com/review/list
