A husband struggling with his wants and desires A wife struggling with regret and a twenty year old secret that can tear them apart The other woman who wants to fulfill his every needSounds like your typical love triangle until someone crosses the thin line between love and hate into murder leaving one piece of the triangle nothing but an empty shellThen the twists turns dips and loop the loops like a heart stopping roller coaster begin Wow What a thrill ride that often had me shaking my fists at the characters while reaching for a tissue at the same time Nothing is as it appears as Melody struggles with what she sees and hears versus what her heart and mind believe as she battles her inner demons and the forces around her of which she has no controlIn the end only her friends family and faith work together to keep her world from imploding as she digs up one secret after another to reveal the final piece of betrayal that starts an explosive chain of tragic events I received a free copy of this audiobook at my reuest and have voluntarily left this reviewMelody Dickinson's life crashes around her when she discovers that her husband has been having an affair with a younger woman from the same law firm Everything is complicated by the fact that this younger woman is found murderedI really liked the suspense of this novel It was really interesting to see the shrinking of Melody's friendship circle as each new piece of information was revealed and three new light on who possibly killed Serena and Jack It was also nice to read it from Melody's perspective because it focussed on her emotions and her guilt and her support network The very freuent references to religion was a bit much and it did feel like it was being shoved at the readerSara Morsey was a brilliant narrator sounding exactly as I expected Melody to sound She had this fantastic southern drawl and it sounded really natural and perfect as Melody I didn't like her as much with the male characters possibly because I connected her to Melody so much My original Empty Shell audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook ReviewerEmpty Shell is a character oriented suspense story that combines murder mystery with ChristianityMelody discovers that Jack her husband of 20 odd years has been having an affair with a younger woman To make matters worse this woman Serena has been working alongside Melody who is a paralegal in a prominent law firm But it doesn’t end there Melody then discovers that Serena has just been found murdered in a hotel room And to top it all off all the evidence points to her cheating husband Jack as the number one suspect When he is arrested and locked up Melody’s world is threatening to fall apart but she has the help and support of her best friend her mother her husband’s best friend and her boss Roger and above all her faith All is not as it seems though and Melody slowly works out that maybe she should have believed Jack’s pleas of being innocent in the murder of Serena Melody sets out to find justice for Jack as and lies secrets and cover ups are revealedEmpty Shell started off really strong The characters are well drawn and you really get a feeling for each one As the story went on though the freuent references to religion became a bit too much for me The story really focuses in on Melody’s emotions and her feelings of guilt That part is well executed and will certainly tug at some readers'listeners’ heartstrings I would have liked of a thrilling mystery with a murderer that was less easy to predict However as a slow burn cozy mystery this is well written and if you enjoy Christian fiction then this will definitely appealI enjoyed the audio narration than I did the book if that makes sense Empty Shell is written from the first person perspective of Melody and Sara Morsey suited that character perfectly Her narration was very natural and delivered with a wonderful Southern drawl that made Melody come alive She sounded just as you would Melody expect to sound She was eually skillful with the different male characters All characters sounded like authentic people no silly voices here There were no problems with the productionAudiobook provided for review by the audiobookreviewercom This is the second book I've read by Ashley Fontainne and honestly she is fast becoming an author that I will read anything by her She is a master of suspense and intrigue Melodys life is changed forever when she finds a pair of panties in her husbands briefcase It's not just the fact that her husband cheated on her with someone she works with it's the fact that that someone turned up beaten to death in the hotel room where the affair was taking place it's also the fact that her husband is the number one suspect and is arrested for the murder How is she supposed to live with the fact that her husband is a monster? Despite his continued declaration of innocence the evidence is overwhelming and she may just have to face the facts But is all as it seems? Who can Melody believe and how can she piece her life back together? So ya this book was so so good I flew through this book in a matter of 2 days and was sad to turn the last page My heart broke for Melody so any times Her life is turned on it's axis and poor Melody struggles to fix it She loves her husband and is heartbroken when she finds out he cheated They haven't been getting on well lately but Melody never thought he could betray her so completely Then to hear that he may be a murderer It devastated her but she plows along because what else is there to do She was such a strong character and I loved that about her What she has to go through through out the book was horrible yet she kept her belief and her fighting spirit This author sure knows how to throw the reader off the scent At no stage did I figure out the villain and for me that is a major bonus I thought I knew who it was but I had no idea She also makes her characters so believable and easily relatable They are well thought out and developed Overall Empty Shell was a magnificent and thrilling read Through out the story there are twists and turns that will leave you reeling There is betrayal death mystery and lies as well as shocking secrets revealed You are left with a sense of shock and awe at the way Ashley Fontainne can grab you and leave you breathless I listened to the audio of this and loved it Sara Morsey really did an awesome job of portraying Melody and her strength as well as her sorrow She had a way of telling the story that was effortless and appealing After twenty years of marriage and finding out they can’t have children Melody Dickinson is hit with another blow Her husband has been having an affair with a much younger girl from her workplace Heated words ensue and Melody rushes off to her workplace determined to have the woman Serena dismissed only to discover she has been murdered and her husband arrested as a suspectEmpty Shell is a fast paced suspense novel where Melody’s life uickly goes out of control as the investigation points to her husband as the murderer But she has a hard time reconciling the fact that she was married to someone who was so violent that he could brutally beat a woman like that and then strangle her to death Melody longs to lay the blame on someone and eventually wonders if the blame should be laid at her own feet for a dark secret she has held from Jack for so many years Could her secret have led to these dark days twenty years later? There are uite a number of twists and turns in this novel and you will be surprised who the culprit in the case actually is and the motive for than one murder I found the pace of the book uite good except for a portion where there was too much talking and not enough actionWhile the crime revolves around an affair there are no sexually explicit scenes in the book However you should note that in this Christian fiction book there is some swearingI thought the characters were well developed and realistic The losses of the characters of their loved ones made me think about how I would feel if I were to go through the same losses with my loved onesI found the solution to the crime uite surprising because I was right then changed my mind I did have the motive totally wrong I very much enjoyed Empty Shell I would recommend it to readers who enjoy Christian suspense I gave this book 4 stars out of 5Thank you to the author who provided a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review A positive opinion was not reuired All thoughts are my ownThis review was published on my the outside in when following other charactersWith every page I was gripped by the whole story had Jack really killed Serena? Had past transgressions come back to haunt Melody and others in this gripping mystery?I really liked Melody and felt so sorry for her being thrown into such a nightmare not wanting to believe Jack had done such a horrible thing and trying get everyone else to believe her that he was innocent Mel struggled as the story continued knowing who to trustA throughly gripping story that had me hooked from the first page to the last page What would you do if your life spiraled out of control in a matter of hours?
