Beautiful debut This young author tackles the intricacies of suffering and loss with wisdom and insight beyond her years It is inspirational, yet heartbreaking I found myself both crying and smiling while reading, which really demonstrates the power of a book Even though this is her first novel, Ms Dominick did not shy away from unique storytelling methods and instead formed a distinctive style I Dominick did not shy away from unique storytelling methods and instead formed a distinctive style I especially loved her use of flashbacks and inclusion of poetry and diary entries, which were all seamlessly woven throughout the novel On a similar note, the usage of a seemingly minor character who takes on greater meaning as the book progresses was a particular poetic and beautiful story arc I will remain vague to avoid spoilers, but it was one of my favorite parts of the book As far as characters go, Ms Dominick has tapped into the dynamics of multiple age groups with skill In particular, I found her presentation of young teenagers to be portrayed with accuracy and depth In a way, it felt like I was taking a trip down memory lane to a time when things were simpler Yet, at the same time, as I have a significant inner child, I could also relate I especially found the childlike joy of Katarina and her friend Abigail to be refreshing Yet the characters in particular the protagonist, Katarina undergo many changes throughout the novel The simplicity presented early on in STILL THAT GIRL serves as a contrast to the events that are soon to occur Character development was excellent, especially when showing the journey of Katarina Yet, as the title of the book attests, the entrance of pain and loss does not mean that you have to lose sight of who you are It instead may transform you anew, if you allow yourself to respond to it in a way conducive to healing If you allow yourself time, and if you allow yourself to lean on others and, most of all, on God Powerful message.I also loved how the beauty of family and friendship was highlighted Once again, that was a refreshing inclusion, especially in the context of modern society As a sidenote, I love how this novel connects to a song I listened to it before embarking on this literary journey, and it felt like the soundtrack to my reading Bravo Rebecca Dominick is certainly an author to watch Still That her loved ones Abigail and Katarina s remaining family are helpless as they watch her spiral into a series of depression and grief that lasts for years It is simply a shining narrative of true friendship and yes, if you met Rebecca Dominick, she is a true friend as someone s world is falling apart and one is trapped in the rubble of what once was The only thing that concerned me was when Liam told Katarina that she was being selfish with her behavior Katarina suffered from depression and needed psychological help That is no way selfish Other than that, it was a flawless debut that even incorporated romance with Katarina s sister Nettie and the boy next door It was good to see them flourish as time went on With so many layers of internal conflict, friendship, romance, and prevalence of Catholicism, this is definitely worth your time There s so much good about this beautiful book.Tragedy and loss as experienced by a sensitive young teenager was tackled very well the writing was a delight to read the characters fresh and wholesome and the entire book one which made cry in some parts, laugh in others There was such a strong message about love, forgiveness and the importance of friends and family It would be impossible to recommend this book too much It was awespiring and simply beautiful.
