I wanted so much to love this novel a collection of stories set primarily in the Crowsnest Pass region of Alberta Some of the writing was lovely lyrical and poetic while other parts some stories in particular seemed a little abstract and cut off I had trouble connecting with some of Rees's characters and I suspect that much of it was due to the unrealistic flow of thought and language which while it lends itself well to music and poetry doesn't due much for storytelling and dialogue An interesting concept short stories based on historical events exploring who the people involved might have been I though the base idea behind this novel was really clever but I just found myself wanting to be finished with it Set around the Frank slide area Strange but good
