how I m going to feel about a book where the brother or sister falls for the significant other of their sibling, let alone how that is going to work when it is twins I was pleasantly surprised by the tone and plot of story it worked in a way that made it easy to root for the Twin doing the stealing.Bridge was the twin that looked after his brother, Julian until the messy divorce of their parents that spit the twins apart Parent Trap style Bridge had to leave his life of luxury behind to live with his mom in a little apartment forgotten by his father He and Julian had a falling out and haven t spoken in years, but when Julian is in an accident and ends up in a coma, Bridge is tapped in to take his place and pretend to be him until he recovers The catch, he can t tell anyone, not even the fianc Julian has.The bother stealing the fianc works for me just because Julian has been a dick to her for so long that she actually was breaking off the engagement the day he got into the accident Sure, it is a little hard to believe Isobel didn t catch on a bit earlier that the man in front of her was not Julian, even with the accident and all the bruising, but how many people have secret twins running around Still it was fun to watch Bridge help put the spark of life back into Izzy after Julian ran her down for so many years I enjoyed the dynamic between Bridge and Isobel, they were learning to flirt all over again and gain footing towards their future Bridge has the conflicting feelings he should in this situation and I was able to forgive him a lot due to the reasons he chose to jump into this mess in the first place The pacing of the story was good and I liked that it took a while to get to the juicy stuff.Isobel is a little bit of a victim for some reasons I won t go into She stayed with a man she should have left a long time ago, not realizing how bad it had gotten She has some issues from her past with Julian that Bridge is able to help with It was a little hard for me to love her because she stayed in a bad relationship for so long but the story is presented in a way that I rooted for her to take her life back and find happiness. There is another subplot happening against the father that was interesting and gave the story a good bad guy to hate You could see how manipulative and awful the man was that he would try to tear apart his family like he did in the story I loved hating him.Overall this was a fun romance that had a romantic interest I could really get behind even if he is stealing the girl the whole time It is fun and flirty with some sass.Narration The audio had a narrator for both Isobel and Bridge s PoV I did prefer the female narration a littlethan the male but that was just because of a few of the female voices he did weren t as strong I listened to this at my usual 1.5x speed.Listen to a clip HERE ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewUnfortunately, Stealing Her was my least favorite NetGalley in exchange for an honest reviewUnfortunately, Stealing Her was my least favorite out of all of Rachel Van Dyken s books I ve read so far though overall, it was still an okay read In general, I just think the plot of this novel was a little far fetched It was a bit weird how the relationship of Isobel and Julian was pretty much over at the start of the book but once his twin brother Bridge had to step in for him after his accident and began treating Isobel a bit different from how he did, she s suddenly ready to just take him back without a second thought Further, it was quite unrealistic that Isobel didn t figure out that the person she thought was Julian wasn t actually him Yes, the fact that he acted a bit differently towards her could ve been explained by him coming to his senses following the accident But the fact that Bridge was ripped while his twin brother was not and that he had tattoos Julian never had and that Isobel just assumed she hadn t noticed him change in that way even though they re married just felt wrong and weird Especially because at the start of the book, she had been determined to not let people fool her or treat her like a doormat any In my opinion, the ending then also wrapped up a little too easily and was a little too open There was not really a scene in which what happened in the book was discussed properly and I also didn t like how there was no proper conversation between the twins, especially considering that they hadn t seen each other inthan a decade Nevertheless, I didn t think this was a bad book I actually started rooting for Bridge and Isobel as a couple at some point, even though him posing as his twin brother still left a bad taste in my mouth, and I m also still a big fan of Rachel Van Dyken s writing style I might even check out the sequel to this book once it comes next year because I m interested in seeing a different side of Julian.instagram my blog twitter The blurb totally sucked me Julian He was kind of the bad guy in this, but it did seem that he may not have been as bad as we are lead to believe I m thinking the author has plans for him in a future book. The father No redeeming qualities and I wanted to him to get his due Overall, a drama filled story that was pretty darn enjoyable Rachel Van Dyken delivers a story full of angst, drama, heartbreak, sexiness, twists and turns Stealing Her has it all.For the past decade Bridge has had one goal To take care of his ailing mother Ever since his father tore apart their family, choosing his twin brother and abandoned him and his up at his doorstep making him an offer he can t refuse All he has to do is pretend to be Julian, his twin brother, who s hospitalized fighting for his life.It should have been easy Bridge and his brother had once been inseparable best friends The only problem is that he s fooling himself if he thinks he can stay away from his brother s fianc e The stunning and remarkably caring woman who clearly wanted to end her engagement with his neglectful brother How will the cards fall once the truth is revealed I don t think I had ever truly read a forbidden romance until I picked up Stealing Her This is not a typical man meets woman, they find a connection, fall in love, run into some roadblocks but then find a way to live happily ever after This is a rare and skillfully written romance I couldn t put down I was hooked from the start knowing that the proverbial shoe would eventually fall, not knowing how or when but eagerly anticipating it.When Bridge steps into his brother s shoes he realizes that not all is what it seems He realizes that the brother he had demonized had also had a difficult life being under their father s oppressive thumb But Julian had made one too many mistakes when it came to Isobel and Bridge couldn t help but fall for the gorgeous woman.Even though they were faced with an impossible situation, I really wanted Bridge and Izzy to find their happy ending The connection between them leaped from the pages I especially swooned over Bridge helping Isobel rebuild her confidence and give her space and freedom Even though he thought himself the villain, I loved him as a hero.Their circumstances where unfathomable, there was no easy out and in the end I had a huge book hangover with a montage of emotions The next book in the series can t come fast enough.Stealing Her is book 1 of the Covet series by Rachel Van Dyken It is a standalone, contemporary romance, told from both points of view with a happy ending. I was given an ARC of this book courtesy of the author NetGalley The excerpts taken from that copy I don t know how she does but Rachel Van Dyken always manages to suck me into her stories.I really enjoyed reading Stealing Her This book is definitely for those that love a good angsty romance.Bring on Book 2 cause I loved this one. that first page The prologue was in the past and set the stage perfectly We saw the family dynamics that shocked me and instantly made me feel sympathy and compassion towards Bridge From there we got taken on a ride that was emotional, morally grey, and completely twisted I d traded heaven for hell For them And I would do it every damn time Bridge I liked Bridge right away He was strong, tenacious and loved deeply My heart broke for him as I learned about his mom s medical condition and watched all of the sacrifices he made for her She was his life His heart Bridge was such a generous man that was good to the core But with medical bills and caring for his mom becoming overwhelming at times, Bridge made a deal with the devil His estranged father If he played the part of his twin brother, who he hadn t seen since he was a child, his mom would be taken care of So he accepted the deal, while his brother was in a coma I made a vow to her, even though she didn t know it I would give her the best few weeks of her life, days that would be filled with smiles, not control And then do the cruelest thing a man could do Turn her back over to the real Julian the minute he woke up We alternated between Bridge and Isobel, who was his twin brother s fiance I liked Isobel but it pained me to see how she was being mentally abused by Julian Tennyson, Bridge s twin He cheated, lied and treated her like something he could easily discard By the time she was finally finding her voice and standing up for herself, Julian was in a horrific accident I was being incredibly creepy She wasn t mine to stare at or to want And yet a tiny voice in my head said she was That she wasmine than she was his Because at least when I looked at her, I saw her When Bridge and Isobel met, I didn t know what to expect He was pretending to be Julian, so I thought she should know right away Right But her and Julian had fallen apart in the previous months, they were strangers to each other So the fact that Isobel noticed differences with Julian just made her realize how distant they had actually grown It played out beautifully, but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop Because the truth always seems to come out I swear to you that the man standing here, in front of you, will never cheat on you Ever I looked up into his eyes, for the first time noticing that his lashes looked slightly longer My body screamed it was right, my mind told me that I was hallucinating, because people s eyelashes didn t just change, did they I loved watching Bridge fumble his way into acting like Julian Especially when it came to Isobel But I was always nervous because when they were together, they felt right yet also forbidden There was an instant connection and spark between them and I knew that if they were truly together, they would be magnificent But Isobel was with Julian And if he woke up from his coma, the facade would end At times it felt like I was rooting for the wrong brother, hoping that Bridge would win Isobel over But when is love ever rational She turned around and made her way into the living room, she didn t see the face I made after she called me by his name Or the helpless feeling in my soul when I realized that I was making headway for a man who hated me, and I was falling for a woman who was and would always be his The story flew by quickly and I loved how I didn t even see some events coming One of them was dark and I just stared at the page in disbelief Another made me gasp And while there wasn t a ton of side characters, two were the perfect villains The twin s dad was wicked, smart, ruthless and had no heart He was a deadly combination And his new wife Marla was someone who I wanted to disappear Forever Thankfully the twin s mom was a bright light of kindness, love and patience I loved her I d always thought I was a good person solid, loyal, dependable And now I felt like an unapologetic thief I leaned over and kissed her on the cheek When you want a forbidden love story that has depth and emotions leaping from the pages, definitely pick up Stealing Her This book was extremely emotional and deep It wasn t like Rachel Van Dyken s other books where I found myself constantly laughing and smiling There was a heaviness to this story that was not lightened by laughter It worked out perfectly for me, since I had just finished a cute and fluffy book So yes of course I recommend this book PS Here s a quote I loved so, so, so much My jaw dropped Are you telling me you read romance novels No He pointed his finger at me and laughed I m telling you I skip to the good parts, do the necessary strategizing in my head, you know, like wondering if you could actually do that sort of thing at that angle, and then I store it in my head for future use That s not hopeful to uncomfortable to practically swooning with glee, my emotions were put through the wringer in Stealing Her The reason for this was my simultaneous adoration for the characters as well as slight repulsion at what they were doing I wanted them to have their happily ever after and yet I acutely disliked the only means in which they could attain it Despite the emotional roller coaster and the fact that I hadn t read one of her novels in years, Rachel van Dyken has impressed me again after all of this time The story follows Bridge and Julian Tennyson Twins brothers separated by divorce, betrayal and years of anger When Julian is injured in a car accident, it s up to Bridge to assume the role as CEO and save the company from the assured stock market and investor loss that is associated with instability in a multi billion dollar corporation What Bridge hadn t anticipated in his attempt to preserve everything his brother had worked so hard for was Julian s fianc Isobel has lost everything she once held dear Her family, her independence and her love for Julian As an orphan taken in by the Tennyson s, Isobel owes her high fling lifestyle all to their generosity With the expectation to be the perfect trophy wife, of course After all, nothing in life comes for free Her once soaring love for Julian had long since dwindled and in its place was a woman who hadn t experienced kindness in a long time I found myself hoping that she would gain back her youthful confidence that we d been shown glimpses of While she did, it was done in a co dependent manner that I wasn t a complete fan of She deserved to gain back her career, independence and self sufficiency This wasn t really addressed and it left me feeling disappointed. When Bridge assumes his fa ade of being Julian Tennyson, he s expected to ensure Isobel is kept in the dark The return of kind, considerate and playful Julian AKA Bridge is enough to re establish Isobel s feelings however, she s not aware that they re for the wrong guy What ensued was a daringly honest, controversial story of falling in love with the wrong person What I adored about this story and similarly was uncomfortable by was the way in which the author highlighted the imperfections and flaws in each character This was not an insta love Nor was it a relationship I could wholeheartedly get behind It was gritty, emotional and a little bit raw I thoroughly enjoyed reading this My reason for only giving it four stars was the fact that I couldn t get over Bridge and Isobel s actions without yelling CHEATER in my head even though I wanted them to have a happy ending I m also a sucker for being a fan of the underdog While Julian was the underdog in this case, he was painted a bit too harshly in my opinion He was condoned for cheating and yet Bridge and Isobel were doing exactly that They were all cheaters They were all a result of shitty childhoods and troubled pasts I felt like Julian should have been given a bitempathy and slack in his portrayal I hope the next book follows him and we get to see his story turn in to a happier one This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, years she should have noticed a physical difference automatically I don t know I m also just not a huge 3.75 5 Stars I loooooooove this author and there was nothing inherently wrong with this book, it Even identical twins have physical differences and if Izzy was with Julian for that many years she should have noticed a physical difference automatically I don t know I m also just not a huge fan of the whole brother vs brother thing I don t hate the concept or the trope because if it s done well it s usually all good and this WAS done well but I personally find it easier to digest and accept when one of the brothers is usually toxic not good for the heroine I liked the fact that the author made Julian a good guy in the end but it also made it really fucking hard for me to not feel a little bitter towards Bridge Also I feel like Izzy just accepted the fact that the person she was living with wasn t her fianc way too easily There should have been muchhostility there AND how do we even know that Izzy truly fell for Bridge when she said on multiple accounts that the way Bridge is was exactly the way Julian used to be Plus they re twins It just makes it a little hard to believe her u know Anyway, other than that the book was interesting and I liked it Just a lil unsatisfied at the ending and the technical details I also prefer the authors upbeat novels that fallinto the rom com side and was kinda sad when I realised this wasn t going in the same direction
