This book was kinda unusual.It was a overly large edition and the photos were extremely nice which is why I ended up giving it the four star rating.The writing was just okay.This was an older book from 1993 and sounded like a text book at times which I didn t mind but some people might find boring.My favorite buildings in here were Windsor,Versailles,The Alhambra and Topkapi.Each chapter revolves around one building and offers maps,inside,outside photos and cross section illustrations.They also This book was kinda unusual.It was a overly large edition and the photos were extremely nice which is why I ended up giving it the four star rating.The writing was just okay.This was an older book from 1993 and sounded like a text book at times which I didn t mind but some people might find boring.My favorite buildings in here were Windsor,Versailles,The Alhambra and Topkapi.Each chapter revolves around one building and offers maps,inside,outside photos and cross section illustrations.They also include background info,who built it,who ruled there and improvements made by successive rulers.Also, there are summaries of important events or legends that took place on the properties and occasionally the author will take you on a tour as if you happened to be the subject of a current ruler.Mainly though I just wanted to blow up the cross section illustrations and maps and keep them for future reference A collection of essays of varying quality, Living in a Dream is a survey, mainly architectural, of several palaces scattered around the world The book could have used manypictures, especially to elucidate some of thehighly technical passages, and some of the essays are drier and less appealing than others Perhaps the most interesting is the one on Ludwig II and Neuschwanstein Ultimately, though, I m not sure this book is ofvalue than a session with Wikipedia and Google. Really fun to look at, a very large and impressive book.
